If you want to take a car, motorbike, trailer, caravan, delivery van or camper (up to 3.5 tonnes) on Swiss motorways and expressways, you need a motorway vignette sticker.
You can buy eine e-vignette or a sticker vignette.
The vignette must be stuck to the inside of the windscreen and must be clearly visible. In the case of vehicles without windows, such as trailers, the vignette must be affixed to a clearly visible part of the vehicle that cannot be removed.
Please note: Heavy vehicles (of more than 3.5 tonnes) do not need a vignette. They are subject to a special heavy vehicle charge instead.
Each Swiss motorway vignette costs CHF 40.
The sticker 2025 is valid from 1 December 2024 to 31 January 2026.
There are no daily, weekly or monthly vignettes.
Please note: If you are driving without a vignette, you will be fined (CHF 200) and will also have to buy the vignette itself (CHF 40).
Buy a sticker vignette
In Switzerland you can buy the sticker vignette at filling stations, post offices, and at customs posts at the border. You can also get it online from the Swiss Post website.
You can buy the Swiss motorway vignette before entering Switzerland from selected points of sales.
Buy an e-vignette
The electronic toll sticker (e-vignette) can be obtained via www.e-vignette.ch from the «Via Portal» of the Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (FOCBS).
Electronic vignette
The e-vignette is linked to the number plate, not the specific vehicle. If you have an interchangeable number plate, you only need to buy one e-vignette for all the vehicles used with that plate.
Sticker
The sticker is linked to a specific vehicle. Even if you have interchangeable number plates, you’ll need to buy a sticker for each vehicle.
Once your vignette has expired you can remove it from your windscreen. The best way is with a razor blade and a little patience.
If you have stuck a vignette on your vehicle, under no circumstances may you take it off and put it on another one. You cannot do this even if the other vehicle belongs to you or you have interchangeable number plates.
Detailed information on the roads for which you need a vignette can be found on this page: map of motorways and expressways in Switzerland.
